1930's house extension and loft conversion in North Finchley
The clients’ brief for their 1930’s house was to remodel the existing kitchen/ family living area to provide better circulation and improved visual relationships to the garden, along with a sideways extension to achieve a comfortable “snug” space and improved utility and cloakroom facilities. A loft conversion to accommodate their expanding family needs, with the master bedroom suite moving upstairs was also on the wish list.
The white rendered ground floor extension achieved an open plan kitchen and breakfast room with a large corner window providing an uninterrupted view into the garden and terrace. A family room, accessed off the breakfast room, plus a new cloakroom and utility space, completed the brief with the external envelope of these elements being clad in horizontal oiled timber slats. The loft conversion forms a new ‘Dutch’ gable to an existing hipped roof providing a bedroom and bathroom.
