Conversion of malt house into ultimate loft living Bristol

When faced with an immense space, it is vital to really get to grips with its scale so that any elements you add are in proportion. This converted Malt House was built in the 1850s and was previously owned by Guinness. This listed property was converted into apartments in 1995 and now the customer wanted us to redesign the space to add 2 extra bedrooms to the apartment to accommodate the needs of their growing family.

This was achieved by creating a really interesting viewing platform and gallery that overlooks the city. The viewing gallery is accessed by a spectacular spiral staircase that manages to be both lightweight yet dominant and has become the centerpiece of the main living area.

The building is listed but the conservation officer really liked the way Architect Your Home had contrasted the modern with the traditional within the property, so permission was reasonably straightforward.
