Inspirational wraparound extension in Mill Hill
The extension wraps around the rear and side of a detached house in Mill Hill, London. The clients¹ brief included expanding the ground floor kitchen/family/living room to achieve a more generous dining area and greater transparency towards the terrace and garden.
The 21st-century property was a contemporary development to which the extension design improved integration of use, and circulation between the existing living spaces, and provided the much-needed link both visual and actual. The copper cladding to both external and internal walls will continue to mellow and change colour as the metal oxidizes, providing a striking appearance that marks the passing of time. Extensive glazing and large sliding doors, with a level transition between inside and outside, merge spaces and admit generous natural light.
