These customers wanted to create a new heart for their home. The old kitchen was pokey and you couldn’t sit in it, there was no informal dining or family room, and nowhere for the dog.
This extension design has been done by fully utilising the scope of permitted development, extending the back wall outwards by 4m to achieve the much needed extra space. A big picture window frames the view of the garden from the kitchen, while folding/sliding doors open the dining space up to the patio and garden beyond. The original backroom fire-place was retained and a log burner fitted to create a cosy family sitting area.
The underused garage was converted into a family/guest room. The architect maximised the space by utilizing the full height of the garage to they could include a mezzanine level sleeping platform. A mini kitchen was incorporated into the wall of cupboards below to provide a wonderfully versatile new room in the house.
