Rear extension to a detached cottage
With this project, the customer was looking to reconfigure and extend the ground floor of the property, which was a detached cottage in Bushy, Hertfordshire.
The cottage had previously been extended with a two storey rear development but they now wanted a more open plan arrangement.
The answer was a new single-storey rear extension across the full width of the existing house and internal ground floor alterations. This involved enlarging and combining the kitchen and dining room into a new open plan family space with an additional family living area. The external access was enhanced through the inclusion of new aluminium heritage french doors out onto a new terrace and steps to the garden. The use of exposed timber ceiling beams, as well as heritage doors, tied a modern addition to the fabric of the period house.
