Welcoming rear kitchen extension

This customer wanted an extension that complimented and blended in with the existing house whilst still providing a flexible space that was full of daylight.

The architect designed a simple but very effective rear extension, using reclaimed London stock bricks to match the existing walls and a pair of timber patio doors rather which was in keeping with the existing window frames rather than opt for the very on trend metal sliding doors.

The pair of doors also helps create the sense of two adjoining spaces inside rather than one open expanse, as the one set of doors leads into the kitchen/dining room whilst the other into the living room thus enabling the spaces to have their own function and yet flow happily into each other. This characteristic was further enhanced by retaining the wall to the kitchen which allowed for a degree of containment whilst being open to the main space.
